The Problem

Most Shopify Problems Are Engineering Problems

Launching a Shopify store has never been easier. Running one well is a different job. The stores that come to us rarely need a prettier homepage. They need a migration that keeps their Google rankings, discount logic that survived the end of Shopify Scripts, a checkout that still tracks conversions after the Thank you page upgrade, an inventory feed that matches the warehouse, or a theme that loads fast on a mid-range phone.

MetaDesk Global is a software engineering company. Our background is embedded systems, industrial IoT and production AI — work where integrations have to be exact and systems have to keep running unattended. We bring that discipline to Shopify: scoped work, clean code, documented integrations and a store that you own outright.

What We Build

Shopify Development Services

Each of these is delivered end to end, from the technical audit to launch and handover. Most projects combine two or three of them.

01

Store builds and theme development

New stores and rebuilds on Online Store 2.0: custom sections and blocks your team can edit without a developer, metafield-driven product pages, and theme code that stays upgradeable instead of a fork nobody dares to touch.

02

Migrations to Shopify

From WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Wix or a custom platform. Products, variants, customers, order history and content move with a validated data map, and every old URL gets a 301 redirect so your search traffic follows you.

03

Checkout, discounts and Shopify Functions

Shopify Scripts were retired on 30 June 2026. We rebuild discount, shipping and payment logic as Shopify Functions, build checkout UI extensions, and repair tracking broken by the Thank you and Order status page upgrade.

04

Custom apps and integrations

Private and custom apps built against the Admin and Storefront APIs, plus integrations with the systems behind the store: ERP, 3PL and warehouse software, PIM, accounting, CRM and marketplaces. This is where our engineering background matters most.

05

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Performance work measured on real-user field data, not a one-off lab score. We remove leftover app code, defer what can wait, fix image delivery and layout shift, and target the INP and LCP problems that cost mobile conversions.

06

Shopify Plus and B2B

Wholesale catalogs, company accounts, payment terms and volume pricing — now partly available below Plus — plus Plus-only work such as checkout customisation, multiple expansion stores and Shopify Flow automations.

07

Maintenance and support retainers

A fixed monthly allocation of developer time for fixes, app updates, theme upgrades, new landing pages and small features, with an agreed response time and a written log of every change made to your store.

Selling Across Borders

Built for the Market You Sell In

We work with brands selling in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and the UAE. A store that converts in one of these markets can fail in another for reasons that have nothing to do with design: the wrong payment options, tax set up incorrectly, or a layout that cannot handle right-to-left text.

Payment availability changes and depends on your business details and Shopify Payments eligibility. We confirm the current options for your store during the audit rather than assuming them.

How We Work

A Process That Protects What Already Works

The most expensive Shopify mistakes are made at launch: lost redirects, a broken checkout, analytics that quietly stopped counting. Our process is built to catch them before customers do.

Technical audit

We review the theme, every installed app, the checkout setup, data quality, integrations and the URLs that currently earn search traffic. You get a written list of what to keep, fix, replace or remove — useful even if you never hire us.

Fixed scope, agreed in writing

A proposal with deliverables, acceptance criteria, timeline and price. Changes are handled through a written change request, so the budget does not drift without you deciding it should.

Build in a safe environment

New stores are built on a development store and transferred to you. Work on a live store happens on an unpublished theme copy, so nothing reaches customers until it has been reviewed.

Test like a customer

Checkout runs on every payment method, discounts and shipping rules on edge cases, the site on real mobile devices, and every redirect in the map before launch.

Launch, monitor and hand over

We launch at a quiet hour, watch orders, analytics and Search Console for the first weeks, and hand over documentation, credentials and code. Ongoing support is optional, never a condition.

Investment

What Shopify Development Typically Costs

We quote a fixed price after the audit, because the cost of Shopify work depends far more on integrations, data and custom logic than on the number of pages. As a guide, published 2026 market ranges look like this:

Type of projectTypical market range (USD)What drives the cost
Theme-based store set-up$2,000 – $10,000Theme customisation, product import, apps, payments and shipping
Custom store build by an experienced team$8,000 – $50,000+Custom design and sections, integrations, migration, content volume
Migration to ShopifyScoped per storeCatalogue size, order history, customer accounts, redirects, subscriptions
Shopify Plus project$30,000 – $150,000Checkout extensions, Functions, B2B, multiple stores, ERP integration
Maintenance retainerMonthly, by hours allocatedResponse time, volume of changes, number of stores

Market ranges published by agencies in 2026, not MetaDesk pricing. Agency hourly rates in the US and UK commonly run $150–350; a well-run offshore engineering team delivers the same work for a fraction of that, provided the scope, code ownership and review process are clear — which is why we put them in writing.

Why Us

Your Store, Your Code, Your Accounts

The most common horror story in Shopify outsourcing is not bad code. It is a developer who owns the store account, holds the theme hostage or disappears with the only copy of an integration.

We work the other way round, and we put it in the contract.

  • You own the store from day oneWe work through Shopify collaborator access that you grant and can revoke at any time. Development stores we build are transferred to your ownership at launch.
  • Every line of code is yoursTheme code, app code and integration scripts are delivered to your repository with documentation. Nothing we build depends on us to keep running.
  • Engineers, not template resellersOur team ships embedded firmware, industrial data pipelines and AI automation. Integrating Shopify with an ERP or a warehouse system is familiar work, not an experiment.
  • We tell you what not to buildIf an existing app does the job for less than custom development would cost, we say so. A smaller, well-chosen app stack is usually faster and cheaper to run.
  • Beyond the storefrontWhen a project needs a customer portal, a web application or a mobile app alongside the store, our web and mobile development team builds it on the same data.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to hire a Shopify developer?
It depends on the work rather than the hours. A theme-based store set-up typically costs $2,000–10,000 in the 2026 market, a custom build by an experienced team $8,000–50,000 or more, and Shopify Plus projects $30,000–150,000. We give a fixed price after a technical audit, so you know the full cost before any work starts.
How long does a Shopify store build take?
A theme-based store usually takes two to four weeks. A custom build with integrations takes six to twelve weeks, and a migration of a large catalogue with order history can take longer. The timeline in your proposal is set by the scope we agree, not by a template.
Can you migrate my WooCommerce or Magento store without losing SEO rankings?
Yes, if the migration is planned for it. Shopify uses fixed URL patterns such as /products/ and /collections/, so every old URL needs a 301 redirect to its new equivalent. We build and test a complete redirect map, carry over titles, meta descriptions and structured data, and monitor Search Console after launch.
Our discounts stopped working after Shopify Scripts were retired. Can you fix that?
Yes. Shopify Scripts stopped running on 30 June 2026, and their logic has to be rebuilt as Shopify Functions or replaced with an app. We map what each script did, rebuild it as a Function, and test it against your real discount and shipping scenarios before it goes live.
Do I need Shopify Plus?
Often not. Since April 2026, merchants on the Basic, Grow and Advanced plans can use core B2B features, including company profiles, payment terms, volume pricing and up to three B2B catalogs. Plus is still required for features such as checkout customisation and expansion stores. We will tell you whether the upgrade pays for itself in your case.
Who owns the store and the code?
You do. We work through collaborator access that you control, transfer any development store to you at launch, and deliver all custom code to your own repository. You can move to another developer at any time without asking our permission.
Do you work with businesses in the UK, Australia and the UAE?
Yes. We work remotely with brands in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and the UAE, and set up each store for its market: local currency and payment methods, tax configuration, shipping carriers and, for the UAE, Arabic right-to-left support.
