IoT Dashboard Development Services

IoT dashboard and app development from the device up: real-time monitoring, customer-facing portals, alerts, fleet and OTA management, built on clean data from MQTT to time-series storage, with honest advice on when Grafana or a platform is enough.

The Problem

A Dashboard Is Only as Good as the Data Behind It

Most IoT dashboards start well and decay. Devices go offline and the charts quietly flatline. Timestamps from different devices disagree. Alerts fire so often that people mute them. Customers ask for their own login, and the internal tool was never designed for it. Six months in, the dashboard shows lots of data and nobody trusts it.

MetaDesk Global does IoT dashboard development from the device up. Our engineers also write the firmware that produces the data, so missing readings, clock drift and noisy sensors are fixed at the source rather than hidden in the chart. The result is a monitoring app that people use to make decisions: operations dashboards, customer portals and fleet management tools for connected products.

What We Build

IoT Dashboard Development Services

Each of these can be built on its own or as one platform that shares the same data.

01

Real-time monitoring dashboards

Live views of sensors, machines and sites with history, trends and drill-down, built for the screen in the control room as well as the phone in the field.

02

Customer-facing IoT portals

Branded web and mobile apps where your customers see their own devices and data, with multi-tenant accounts, user roles and the option to add billing later.

03

Alerts and notifications

Threshold, trend and offline alerts by email, SMS, push or messaging apps, with escalation and acknowledgement so the right person acts. See designing IoT notification systems people keep acting on.

04

Fleet and device management

Provisioning, device health, connectivity status, firmware versions and over-the-air update campaigns, in one place for your support team.

05

Industrial and operations analytics

Equipment utilization, downtime and condition monitoring, energy and water use, and reports that feed maintenance and management decisions.

06

Data pipelines and integrations

Ingestion over MQTT or HTTP, time-series storage, APIs for your other systems and exports to ERP, CMMS and BI tools.

Build or Configure

Grafana, an IoT Platform or a Custom App?

Not every dashboard needs custom software. We recommend the cheapest option that meets your users’ needs, and often start with the first row and move down only when it stops being enough.

OptionBest forLimits
Grafana on a time-series databaseInternal monitoring and engineering teams, fast to set upLimited branding and per-customer access, not a product your customers buy
An IoT platform such as ThingsBoardDevice management, rules and dashboards without building everythingYou work within the platform’s data model, licensing and update cycle
A custom web and mobile appCustomer-facing products, multi-tenant accounts, your own workflows and brandHigher first cost, but no platform fees and full control of the roadmap
Architecture

How a Reliable IoT Dashboard Is Built

Each layer has a failure mode that shows up in the dashboard. Designing them together is how the charts stay trustworthy. For the bigger picture, see enterprise IoT architecture.

LayerWhat we buildWhat it prevents
Device and firmwareBuffered readings, accurate timestamps, health and heartbeat messagesGaps after outages, readings in the wrong order, silent dead devices
IngestionMQTT or HTTP endpoints with authentication and validationSpoofed devices and malformed data reaching storage
StorageTime-series databases such as InfluxDB or TimescaleDB, with retention and downsamplingSlow charts and storage costs that grow without limit
API and rulesAccess control per customer, alert rules and derived metricsCustomers seeing each other’s data, alert storms
Web and mobile appsFast views, offline-friendly mobile screens, exports and reportsA dashboard nobody opens because it is slow or unclear
Projects

Connected Systems We Have Delivered

Published case studies where device data reaches people through a dashboard or an app.

Leak detection with cloud dashboards

A leak detection system on ESP32 with a 4G modem, sending continuous sensor data to InfluxDB and Grafana for long-term monitoring and early warnings.

Acoustic monitoring posted to the cloud

An ESP32 sound analyzer that runs FFT on the device and posts compact frequency-band data to cloud endpoints every five seconds.

Field vehicle monitoring

A farm vehicle monitoring system that tracks GPS position, motion and harvesting performance in real time over BLE.

Device control apps

Companion apps for a smart lock and a smart air freshener, with real-time control, scheduling and status from the device.

How We Work

Start With the Decisions, Not the Charts

A good dashboard answers a few questions quickly. We start by finding out what those questions are. Our guide to IoT platform KPIs shows the metrics we usually begin with.

Users and decisions

Who uses the dashboard, what they need to decide and how fast. You get a short list of views, metrics and alerts, and a recommendation on Grafana, a platform or a custom app.

Data audit

We check what the devices actually send: gaps, timestamp quality, units and volume. Problems found here are fixed in firmware or ingestion, not papered over in charts.

First live view

One useful dashboard on real device data within the first weeks, so users can react to something real before the rest is built.

Build out

Remaining views, alerts, user accounts, device management and integrations, released in short iterations to a staging environment.

Operate and hand over

Monitoring of the platform itself, backups and documentation, with optional ongoing support or a full handover to your team.

What Drives the Cost of an IoT Dashboard

We quote after the users-and-data stage, because a few choices decide most of the effort.

Why Us

Dashboards Built by the People Who Built the Devices

Most web agencies treat device data as something that arrives from somewhere else. We can follow a bad reading all the way back to the sensor and fix it there.

  • Device to dashboard on one teamFirmware, cloud and app engineers agree the data format once, so the dashboard is not a translation layer for problems upstream.
  • Honest build-or-buy adviceIf Grafana or an existing platform does the job, we set it up and tell you so. Custom software is for when it pays for itself.
  • Alerts people act onThresholds, escalation and quiet hours designed with the people who receive them, so alerts stay meaningful.
  • You own the platformCode, infrastructure and data live in your accounts, and ownership is confirmed in the contract.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does IoT dashboard development cost?
A configured Grafana or IoT platform dashboard for an internal team is a small project. A custom, customer-facing web and mobile app with accounts, device management and integrations is a larger one. We quote after a short stage that defines the users, decisions and data, so the price matches what you actually need.
Should we use Grafana, ThingsBoard or a custom dashboard?
Grafana suits internal monitoring and is quick to set up. An IoT platform such as ThingsBoard adds device management and rules without building them yourself. A custom app is worth it when the dashboard is part of the product you sell, with your brand, your customers’ accounts and your own workflows.
Can you build a dashboard for devices we already have in the field?
Yes. We start with a data audit of what the devices send today. If the data has gaps or timing problems, we can often fix them in the ingestion layer, or with a firmware update if you want us to work on the devices too.
Which protocols and databases do you use?
Usually MQTT or HTTPS from devices, a time-series database such as InfluxDB or TimescaleDB, and a relational database for accounts and configuration. We follow your existing cloud provider and tools where they already work.
Can our customers have their own logins?
Yes. Customer portals are built with multi-tenant accounts, so each customer sees only their own devices and data, with roles for their administrators and users.
Do you also build mobile apps for IoT products?
Yes. Our web and mobile app development team builds iOS and Android apps for monitoring, alerts, device setup and control, on the same data as the web dashboard.
Do you work with companies outside Canada?
Yes. We work remotely with clients in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and the UAE, and host the platform in the cloud region your data rules require.
